Preface

DOMINION MUSEUM
1865-1965

The Dominion Museum, which was founded as the Colonial
Museum in 1865, is this year celebrating its centennial. As part
of this year's celebration a history of the museum's first hun-
dred years was planned and has now been compiled. Because
of the time necessary to actually produce such a work it seems
unlikely that this larger history will be published this year.
It has, therefore, ben decided tp prepare this booklet in order
to place on record the early history of the institution and the
major landmarks in its development.
