Historical souvenir of the Young Men's Christian Association of the City of Wellington, New Zealand.
The Young Men's Christian Association was founded in
Auckland in 1855 with separate associations established
around the country throughout the later nineteenth
century. After forming a trans-Tasman National Council
in 1886, a separate New Zealand Council was created in
1916. This souvenir booklet makes good use of
photographic blocks and studio portraits reprinted from
various magazines such as Sporting
& Dramatic News and Freelance. As the acknowledgements
note, both Commercial Printing Co and the paper merchants
John Dickinson & Co. made liberal concessions to
enable the completion of this important commemorative
work.
