PIERRE ET GILLES

Provocative French artists Pierre et Gilles have been at the interface of
contemporary art and gay popular culture for the last decade and their
constructed photographic images have had wide circulation through maga-
zines, postcards and poster books. They have also designed record covers for
Boy George, Nina Hagen and Marc Almond.
BLACK CARNIVAL
A photographic installation by Christine Webster
12 November 1995–28 January 1996, NEW GALLERY
Christine Webster’s photographic installation of 40 large cibachromes of
semi-nude men and women illustrates themes of cross-dressing and role play.
Webster is well known for her images of performers acting out personal
dramas. This nationally touring exhibition has been organised by Exhibitour.
PETER PERYER SECOND NATURE

This 20-year survey of Peter Peryer’s photographs establishes his reputation
as one of New Zealand’s finest camera artists. Organised by City Gallery,
Wellington, for exhibition at Frankfurt.

Established in 1949, the Hallmark Art Collection is one of the earliest
corporate fine art collections in the world. The photographic collection today
includes nearly 2300 prints by more than 270 of this century’s leading
photographers, making it one of the most significant collections of its kind.
This is the most important survey of American photography every exhibited
in New Zealand; 230 photographic prints by ‘the best of the best’.
