Pukapukan is a distinct language spoken on the Northern Cook Islands atoll of Pukapuka (1996 population 780) where Johnny Frisbie Hebenstreit, the author of this story ('A Quiet Night'), was born. Up to 2,000 Pukapukans are estimated to live in New Zealand, mainly in Auckland. After Learning Media had published the story in six other Pacific Island languages, the specialist Pukapukan publisher Mataaliki Press in Auckland produced this version Pō Lāwie in the author's mother tongue in 1992.
