A DESERT MEAL The patrols
were probably the best-fed
troops in the Middle East. So
that the men could stand severe
conditions for long periods,
without fresh meat, vegetables,
and bread, and with very little
water, they were given tinned
foods of a high calorific value
and as much variety as possible
