C Statistics

Most of the statistics used in this study have been drawn from three official sources:

• (1)

  Statistics of New Zealand—a single-volume, annual publication during our period.

• (2)

  New Zealand Census Returns—again a single-volume publication at this time.

• (3)

  AJHR 1886, D-1, RETURN No. 10—the New Zealand Railway's ‘Statement of Revenue and Expenditure of each Station for the Year ended 31st March, 1886’.

  Statistics from these three sources have not been referenced. References have been given for statistics drawn from other sources.
