Sport 8: Autumn 1992

[section]

We announced early in 1991 that we planned to publish three issues of Sport in that year. Regular readers will have noticed that we didn't. It proved a bad idea because (a) Sport is what we do in the weekends, and we found time and energy didn't run to an extra issue, and (b) we found that the writing coming in didn't quite run to three full-sized issues of the standard we desire. We'd been right to start with: two issues per year were sustainable. We also decided not to go ahead with full special issue on the topic 'food'—while we had some excellent contributions, a whole issue would be half-baked.

Sport 8 is a little larger than previous issues. The focus, as always, is on new fiction and poetry. The issue features, towards the end, a variety of writing—fiction, poetry and an essay-on 'food'. There are also contributions from international and local writers who are guests at Writers and Readers Week at the International Festival of the Arts, Wellington, March 1992.

The next issue of Sportwill be published in October. Submissions will be gratefully received up to the middle of June.
