Vincent O'Sullivan is one of New Zealand's foremost literary figures. He is well known not only for his poetry, but as a playwright, short-story writer, anthologist, editor, critic, and as co-editor of the 5-volume Collected Letters of Katherine Mansfield.
Selected Poems brings together a generous selection of Vincent O'Sullivan's work, indicating both its depth and breadth. His use of a robust New Zealand vernacular gives his poetry a particular pungency and energy.
This collection contains poems from seven of O'Sullivan's previous publications: Bearings (1973), The Indian Funeral (1976), Butcher & Co (1977), The Butcher Papers (1982), Brother Jonathan, Brother Kafka (1980), The Rose Ballroom (1982,) and The Pilate Tapes (1986). It also includes two dozen new poems, written since his last collection in 1986
