Emma Neale

Indelible

Tonight I wanted to take my life

to your throat and say
does it hurt you this way

to draw it in a quick flicker
along the white underside of your trust

watch the bright red seed pearls
germ in a thread cluster
along the thin nicked edge.

You would watch me
with the look of someone
who waits for the needle to come.

Only know it later
by the dry strand of red dew web
supped in the fold of your collar.
