Conversation with a Man
your fingers talk to the table
the sides of your glass
the salt shaker, the pepper
the edges of your empty plate
your eyes talk to the window
the street light outside
the passing cars
the pedestrians
the waiter with the smile
the couple at the corner table
who seem so fond of each other
your mouth talks to no one
for fear of interrupting

Funeral Song
1.
I woke
this morning
choking on you
You had got stuck
somewhere
in my haste to swallow you
not even bothering to bite
For a moment I
couldn't breathe
It was nothing new
2.
The cool space where you
used to be
beside me in your long quiet body,
warm and velvet in the bedroom darkness.
The nights are long this summer.
3.
Being without him,
she says,
is like his death,
without a body to mourn.
Except, of course,
he still lives where she left him.
And
she still sleeps with him,
sometimes.

‘Did You Know That 1175 Hens Live in a Space the Size of this Billboard?’
If I was to care
I would have to care about
world peace
women's rights
the health crisis
streetkids
politics
the starving millions
the underclass
I would have to act nice
keep my voice down
help other people
make my vote count
do something about it
probably I would even have to be
nice to my parents
