Westerns, Musicals & Costume Dramas
Even with all
the oranges and pinks
of mesas
in ‘Billy the Kid’
and the blues and reds
of ‘My Blue Heaven’
I still accepted
the black and white
of ‘The Wicked Lady’
and did not question
the blood
that oozed like tar
from sword and pistol wounds
or the glistening ‘black’ lips
of Margaret Lockwood
who showed lots of ‘white’ cleavage
in what looked like
a ‘black’ dress.

Transit of Venus
I picked a sprig
of white lilac
for her hair
and for hours, it seemed,
we lay there together
in that little cove of sand;
and she said to me;
‘You know, I am half
in love with you’
these were her very words
and I never knew
before and after we parted
just what the other half was
that would have
made up a whole.
