Seven Parts to the Story
When I saw Eros
My heart, oh my
heart
I was so happy
Little delights
combusted in
my path
Although they are
In love she still
stops to lean
against trees on
her way home
Her eyes
In the street window are
tiny lights like holes left
by pulled-out stitches
– 189 –
But you, Monkey Face
Slipped away
my desirous fingers
left strumming the air
I find you here again
Under the white morning
holding all the stars
It's no use
The night has closed its eyes
to me
the night has closed its eyes
Note: When I saw Eros, I was so happy, Although they are, But you Monkey Face, It's no use are all titles from Sappho.
