Villalobos and Gaetano

1529 to 1542

A voyage of some importance was made by Ruy Lopez de Villalobos in 1542, with Juan Gaetano as pilot. They sailed from the port of Navidad, near Acapulco in Mexico and discovered a number of islands before finally arriving at Mindanao. One group of these islands has been held by some to have been the Hawaiian Islands, but the evidence does not verify this belief.
