In the Great War.

The Maori Contingent, reorganised as a Pioneer Battalion after its Gallipoli service, consisted of the following:—

First Maori Contingent—February 14th, 1915 518
Second Draft—September 19th, 1915 312
Third Draft—February 6th, 1916 110
Reinforcements to October 18th, 1918 1287
Total of all ranks 2227

The South Sea Islands troops enlisted for service with the New Zealanders were:—

Niué (Savage Island) natives—February 6th, 1916 148
Rarotonga and other Cook Islands natives—first draft February 6th, 1916 50
Rarotongans—second draft, November 16th, 1916 115
Rarotongans—third draft, June 3, 1918 145
Total 458
