Hoani Nahe, sat in the interests of the Maori people as a Minister, without portfolio in the Grey Administration, being a member of the Executive Council from November, 1877 till October, 1879. He went out of office with his colleagues on the defeat of the Cabinet by the Hon. (afterwards Sir) John Hall. He represented the Western Maori Electorate for one Parliament, being defeated on his seeking re-election. Hoani died some two years ago.
