Messrs. J. Anderson and Co.'s Premises.

Wellington. This firm was originally established in Timaru in 1877, and to cope with the increasing business, and obtain a more central position in the Colony, they removed to Wellington early in 1894. Their store and factory is a large brick building, and the motive power is a large water-motor, which drives the milling, roasting, and dressing mills. The raw material is imported from the various producing centres, and prepared and packed for the trade. Their Black and white advertisement for Jumbo Brand Baking Powder which is registered and patented in the Colony, is a well known and page 748 popular article in the culinary department of the leading clubs and homes of the City and Colony. As mercantile brokers and commission salesmen, they conduct a large agency business, principally for the Christchurch Meat Company, Limited, celebrated for their preserved meats, and more especially their mild cured “Morepork” brand bacon, which is indorsed by the faculty “as the only wholesome bacon.” As an index of the trade in this department their trade sales effected from Wellington stores average over ten tons per month.
