Mr. George Alexander Young
Mr. George Alexander Young, Fourth Engineer of the s.s. “Aotea,” was born at Glasgow, in 1870. He was educated at Allan Glen, and served his apprenticeship partly with Messrs. David Rowan and Son, and partly with Mr. Wier, of Cathcart. In 1893 he joined the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, Limited (the s.s. “Tainui” being his first steamer), occupying the position of sixth engineer, and afterwards being promoted to the next rank. When the s.s. “Aotea” left the docks, Mr. Young was transferred to that vessel as above.
