Primitive Methodist Church

Primitive Methodist Church, Franklin Road, Auckland. This church was built in 1876, the congregation removing from the old premises in Sheridan Street. The building is a handsome structure, situated at the corner of Franklin Road and Wellington Street, and cost with the land over £1,400; it is capable of seating 300 persons. Internally it is one of the prettiest churches in Auckland. It has a roomy reading-desk, and a spacious choir platform furnished with chairs. The pews are of modern design and very comfortable. Messrs. T. Booth, T. Maynard, and W. Weeks, who are still connected with the church, were amongst its founders and early workers. Various ministers in succession have had charge of the congregation, namely, the Rev. Messrs Tinsley, Harris, Nixon, Jones, Guy, Boothroy, Laycock, Ward, Potter, Nixon, Raine, and Sharp. The present minister is the Rev. W. S. Potter, who preaches to a large congregation, in addition to four other congregations with which the church is associated. There is an excellent schoolroom occupied by a flourishing Sunday school, under the superintendence of Mr. E. Williams. The parsonage which adjoins the church cost over £300, and the total valuation of the church property is estimated at about £1,800.
