Captain Neil Taylor Robertson

Captain Neil Taylor Robertson, Master of the s.s. “Ohinemuri,” was born in Dundee, Scotland, in 1862, and studied for four years in a chemist's shop, but took to the sea in 1878, and served his apprenticeship on the “Strathern,” a large barque of 1100 tons register. Captain Robertson was afterwards on the s.s. “Kainona,” a beautiful steamer of 4000 tons. He was also for eighteen months on the “Dracona,” and then shipped on the s.s. “Elderslle,” which, after being on her for two years, he left in New Zealand in 1888. Captain Robertson joined the “Glenelg” as second mate, and after a brief experience was transferred to the “Clausman,” on which, latterly, he occupied the position of mate for six months. He was afterwards mate of the “Glenelg” for four years, and occupied a similar position on the “Gairloch” for two years. Captain Robertson was in temporary charge of the “Glenelg” for a time, and was master of the “Argyle” for fifteen months. He afterwards commanded the “Ngunguru,” from which he was transferred to the “Ohinemuri.” Mrs Robertson is a daughter of Mr. George Wardell, of Ponsonby.
