Hazard, William

Hazard, William, Gum Buyer and General Merchant, Peria. Bankers, Bank of New Zealand, Auckland. Mr. Hazard established his business in 1882. His present premises comprise a fine two-storey building with shop having thirty feet frontage and total floor space of over 400 square feet, and are well stocked with goods, with a large business throughout the district. Mr. Hazard is the manufacturer of the “Key Brand” baking powder. He was in the 57th Regiment, in which he enlisted in 1858, and saw over eight years' hard service in New Zealand, going through the whole of the Taranaki war and being present in several engagements. After the war he went to Australia and spent some time roughing it in the back country. Returning to New Zealand in 1881, he moved north and established his business at Peria. Mr. Hazard is married to a daughter of Mr. W. F. Thompson, of Victoria Valley.
