Triphook, John Robert

Triphook, John Robert, Teacher of the Piano and Violin, Grey Street. Whangarei. Since Mr. Triphook's arrival in Whangarei at the beginning of 1895 he has gradually secured for himself a good number of pupils, whom he relies on obtaining firsthand to enable him to thoroughly ground them in the rudimentary exercises of a musical training. Mr. Triphook thoroughly satisfies the parents of his pupils and there are many instances in which the latter call for special mention, as in the case of Miss Adelaide Bryers of Hokianga, who when only nine years old took first prize in a competition for children under twelve years of age. Mr. Triphook was born in Wellington in 1860, and served twelve years in Spensley's music warehouse, Christchurch. He was afterwards in business at Oamaru, whence he removed to Kawakawa on account of ill-health. In Christchurch, as elsewhere, Mr. Triphook took a leading part in musical matters, and in Whangarei he is choirmaster of the Anglican church.
