Mr. Courtney's business, said to be the oldest of its kind in Whangarel, was established by him in 1870. and he has gradually built up an excellent trade, chiefly bespoken work, during the last thirty years, till it extends throughout the Marsden electorate. Coming to Whangarel in 1870, Mr. Courtney started business in Walton Street, but removed to his present more suitable premises six years later, conducting also a grocery business in the adjoining shop. He has been a vestryman of the Church of England for many years, and gives general support to all athletic sports.
