page 259 before the people a special herbal remedy, known as “Yasmeen,” prepared and patented by herself. This medicine is claimed to be an effective blood purifier, a powerful reducer in cases of abnormal condition, and a speedy cure for indigestion. Having been a sufferer from these complaints, Mrs Thompson personally testifies to the efficacy of “Yasmeen,” which is now being widely used. In a letter addressed to Mrs Thompson, Dr de Lacy MacCarthy says: “I have much gratification in testifying to the practical effect of your New Zealand herb preparation, which you call Anti-Fat. It has reduced me nineteen pounds in eight weeks, and without the aid of much exercise. It has no ill effect on the system, but clears the head of dullness and headache; also renews the action of the kidneys in a remarkable way, and without injury removes people's useless fat. I have, therefore, strongly recommended these herbs, from practical experience, to a good few patients.” Several other remedies are manufactured on the premises, at 76 Oxford Terrace. Mrs Thompson, the proprietress, was born at Brighton, England, and came to New Zealand in 1862, when she landed at Wellington.
