The Rev. William Saunders

The Rev. William Saunders , Minister in charge of the Moray Place Congregational Church, was born in 1857, and was educated at Bedford College and at Hackney College, London. He was ordained in 1884 in London, and took charge of Bromby-by-Bow Church, London, till 1890, when he was appointed by a commission, consisting of page 188 Drs. Dale and Hanna and Mr. Lee, M.P., to the charge of the Moray Place Congregational Church in Dunedin. Since taking up his work in New Zealand, Mr. Saunders has proved himself a social reformer, and some years ago he disclosed to public view the seamy side of life in Dunedin. He was the first secretary and the second president of the Council of Churches. Mr. Saunders was chairman of the Congregational Union of New Zealand in 1898, and is also local chairman of the London Missionary Society. In 1890 he married a daughter of Mr. D. Hutchison, of London.
