Mr. Cameron, the founder and sole partner, was born near Perth, Scotland, in 1856, educated in his native place, and brought up on his father's farm. He gained his mercantile experiences in connection with his uncle's firm, Messrs. J. and P. Cameron, forwarding agents, of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Perth, and other towns in Scotland. Mr. Cameron arrived in the Colony in December, 1879, and followed agricultural pursuits; he was three years a station manager, and in the beginning of 1884 went to Dunedin as manager for the Colony of the New Zealand Mortgage and Investment Association, Ltd. (known as the Hon. Mr. Bathgate's Company), which position he retained for seven years. As a Freemason, he is attached to Lodge Celtic, Dunedin. Mr. Cameron was married in 1886 to a daughter of the late Mr. W. Christle, of Tioro, Balclutha, and has four sons and two daughters.
