Scott, James

Scott, James , J.P., Farmer, Diamond Hills, Gimmerburn. This gentleman's property consists of 940 acres held under lease in perpetuity, and carries about 800 sheep. Mr. Scott was born in Renfrewshire, Scotland, in 1852, and was brought up to agricultural pursuits. He came to Port Chalmers in 1879, by the ship “Nelson,” and settled in the Naseby district till 1884, when he removed to Gimmerburn and acquired the Diamond Hill property. Since 1891 he has occupied the position of chairman of the Gimmerburn school committee, of which he was previously a member. He was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1893. Mr. Scott was married, in 1879, to a daughter of the late Mr. G. Gall, of Drymen, Stirlingshire, and has two sons and five daughters.
