Mr. Robert Mitchell
Mr. Robert Mitchell , Manager of Waldeck estate, was born in Coleraine, Ireland, in 1854, and brought up on his father's farm. When about twenty years of age, he came to Dunedin by the ship “Christian McCausland,” and spent several years at general farm work and on the West Coast railways. He afterwards took up a large farm on the coast, but he was not successful, owing to floods in the Grey river, killing stock and doing other damage Then he removed to Southland, where for some years he had an interest in the Hokonui coal mine. He was appointed to his present position as manager of Waldeck estate in 1900. Mr Mitchell was married, in 1875, to a daughter of Mr McShefrie, farmer, Coleraine, Ireland, and has one daughter.
