Mr. Walter Henderson
Mr. Walter Henderson , sometime of “Craighouse,” Winton, was one of the oldest settlers at Forest Hill. He was born in 1831 near Locherbie, Dumfries, Scotland, and married in 1855 a daughter of Mr. John Anderson, of Craighouse, Dumfries. Mr. Henderson left Scotland in 1855 for Canada, whence he removed to New Zealand four years later. He afterwards settled at Forest Hill, where he bought the property now known as “Craighouse.” He died in 1878, highly respected throughout the district, and left a widow with nine children.
