5th Battalion Wellington Rifles.

The 5th Battalion Wellington (Centre Or Ruahine) Rifle Volunteers was established on the 1st of May, 1901, with its head-quarters at Woodville. It is composed of six corps, known as A, B, C, D, E, and F Companies, with quarters respectively at Woodville, Dannevirke, Masterton, Pahiatua, Grey town North, and Ashhurst. Lieutenant-Colonel John Drummond is the commanding officer of the battalion, Captain William Jesse Reeve is adjutant, Lieutenant Walter Cairns is pay and quarter-master, and the chief medical officer is Brigade Surgeon Lieutenant-Colonel William Bey, V.D.
