He had formerly been manager, and later joined the firm as a partner. On the formation of the company he was a large shareholder, and acted as manager until taking over the business on his own account. The factory was burned down in December, 1906, and the present wood and iron building was erected in May, 1907. The plant is up-to-date, and includes boring, trimming, cutting, and bottle brush making machinery. Although all kinds of household brushes are manufactured, a specialty is made of dairy brushes, and a large quantity is turned out. The Wanganui Brush Company supplies dairy factories between Palmerston North and New Plymouth. All material used in the manufacture is imported from England. Mr Reid was born at Parnell, Auckland, where he was educated, and learned his trade under Mr Lloyd. He subsequently bought out his employer's business, and was for about four years a member of the firm of Messrs. Reid Brothers, before removing to Wanganui. In the year 1897 Mr Reid married a daughter of Mr J. R. Young, of Kanangaroa, Fordell, and has one daughter.
