The Palmerston North Police District is a sub-office of the Wanganui district. It extends from Shannon to Ashhurst and includes Foxton. The police station is an old wooden building, with a frontage to Church Street, and provides office accommodation and quarters for some of the police. Sergeant M. D. Stagpoole has been in charge of the Palmerston North station since the year 1902. His staff consists of a detective, a gaoler, and seven constables.
