80 Actually, there was a strong Christchurch connection underlying relations between several of our protagonists. Shand, Perry, and Glover were all old boys of Christ's College, and Alley of Christchurch Boys' High School; and all four graduated from Canterbury College. Schroder was the young teacher who inspired Alley's literary interests at the High School, and he was later well known as associate editor of the Christchurch Press for twenty years.
