SPICER, Ella Adams née Adams, Eleanor 1876–1956
Born Lawrence, Otago; daughter of Charles William Adams, later surveyor-general of New Zealand, who surveyed the Milford Track. Was educated in Dunedin, learned painting from Fanny Wimperis and from Nerli. Exhibited from the age of fifteen, and was a working member of the OAS and exhibiting with them 1894–1900. Moved to Wellington and married there in 1907 J. E. D. Spicer, son of

Archibald Hichens Spicer (q.v.). By 1907 in Auckland and exhibited with ASA as Ella Spicer from 1908. Was a well-known Auckland watercolourist for many years and served for a long time on the Society's Council. Was mother of Auckland watercolourist Peggy Spicer. Represented: Turnbull; Hocken, by an oil.
