GUNDRY, Arthur

Gifted half-Maori protegé of painter Albin Martin and other Aucklanders. Educated at Church of England Grammar School, Parnell, Auckland. In 1857–58 accompanied headmaster, artist Rev. John Kinder, on an expedition to Tauranga and through Hot Lakes District. Went to England with introductions to leaders of the art world in London, but died while he was still studying.
