HALES, Samuel
Born Otago, studied art in Dunedin. Exhibited OAS 1892–97 but by 1894 had gone to Paris to study and exhibited with Paris Salon 1897. Was living in Paris when New Zealand painter Frances Hodgkins was teaching there.
