HAWKINS, William Webster

Painter and lithographer, husband of Louisa Hawkins (q.v.) and most probably with her in New Zealand in the 1840s and so possibly met George French Angas at that time. Many of the lithographs in Angas's The New Zealander Illustrated pub. 1847 were by Hawkins. In 1864–66 he was in New Zealand as tutor to the son of J. D. Tetley. His diary for that time, illustrated with sketches, is in Turnbull.
