OUTHWAITE, Isa Rentoul 1842–1925

Born Auckland, daughter of Thomas Outhwaite, first permanent Registrar of the Supreme Court, Auckland, who travelled to New Zealand with the first judge, later Sir William Martin. Outhwaite

was very musical, his wife French, and Isa Outhwaite grew up with a musical and artistic background. Exhibited with Society of Artists, Auckland 1875 and 1877; ASA 1881–1900; NZ Art Students Assoc Auckland 1885. In the New Zealand Graphic 29 March 1879 is an account of a New Zealand excursion by “Two Ladies”, Isa Outhwaite being one of the two. Nine sketches are reproduced.
