Notes.—To persons other than Samoans using this Vocabulary. (1.) Abbreviations for the Samoan names for English Parts of Speech have been used. Their meaning will be found in Note 1. below. (2.) Before using a word in this Part it is advisable to consult the meaning given in the Samoan and English Part of the Grammar and Dictionary. (3.) The nearest Samoan equivalents for the English word are given in ordinary type. The words in italics are intended for Samoans learning English. The explanations of English idioms will be found of service, not only to Samoans, but also to others using the Dictionary.
