XX.—The following is a list of the — Kings of Manu'a

as I received it to day (July 13, 1871) from Taua-nu'u.—T. P.

The name of the king.		Meaning of the name.
1. Tae-o-Tagaloa ^*
2. Fa'a-ea-nu'u (son of 1),		“lifter up of submerged ^† lands.”
3. Sao-io-io-manu (son of 2),		“safe as the bird over there.”
4. Sao-loa (son of 2),		“escaping right off.”
5. Le-Lologa (son of 3),		“the flood.”
6. ‘Ali'a-matua (son of 5),		“the elder ‘Ali'a,” or double canoe.
7. ‘Ali'a-tama (son of 5),		“the boy (i.e., younger)” Ali'a.
8. Fa'a-ea-nu'u	brothers	as above.
9. Pui-pui-po		“shut up by night.”
10. Sili-ai-vao	sons of?
11. Ti'aligo (son of 9)
12. Se-manu (son of 10),		“one bird.”
13. Fa'a-toalia (son of 12)
14. Taliutafa (son of 13)
15. Ti'aligo.
16. Seuēa (daughter of 14)		“a native of Uēa” (Wallace Isld.)
17. Salofi (brother of 16)
18. Taliutafa, (son of 17)
19. Tālolo-mana
20. Vao-mana (son of 19)
21. Tālolo (son of 20)
22. Tālolo-fa'a-lelei-nu'u,		“Talolo who reconciles the lands.”

His was a long and prosperous reign, with no wars; all the upper lands and those to the east were occupied by a large population.

Usurpers.
