Matamata, 20th August, 1864.

Salutations. Friend, do not come to Piako; remain away. The men have heard that you are coming that way. If it is true that you are coming, stay away—you will be killed. There are a great many men at Parae (or the plain.) What I say is correct; do not disbelieve it. This is all I have to say to you. From your friend,
