8 October 1863This Deed written on this Eighth day of October in the Year of our Lord 1863 is a full and final sale conveyance and surrender by us the Chiefs and People of the Tribe Ko Te Mangoui District. "Tahawai" whose names are hereunto subscribed And Witnesseth that on behalf of our pupuke. selves our relatives and descendants we have by signing this Deed under the shining sun of this day parted with and for ever transferred unto Victoria Queen of England Her Heirs the Kings and Queens who may succeed Her and Her and Their Assigns for ever in consideration of the Sum of Pounds (£1273 " 16 " 3) to us paid by Henry T. Kemp on behalf of the Queen Victoria (and we hereby acknowledge the receipt of the said monies) all that piece of our Land situated at Whangaroa and named Te Pupuke (upper side) the boundaries whereof are set forth at the foot of this Deed and a plan of which Land is annexed thereto with its trees minerals waters rivers lakes streams and all appertaining to the said Land or beneath the surface of the said Land and all our right title claim and interest whatsoever thereon To Hold to Queen Victoria Her Heirs and Assigns as a lasting possession absolutely for ever and ever. And in testimony of our consent to all the conditions of this Deed we have hereunto subscribed our names and marks. And in testimony of the consent of the Queen of England on her part to all the conditions of this Deed the name of H. T. Kemp Land purchase Commissioner is hereunto subscribed. These are the boundaries of the Land commencing on the Western Boundaries. side at a line near to the Matawerohia, the Block some time ago sold to the Government, from thence it follows the Surveyor's line until it joins the Maungataniwha Block, it follows the survey line of that Block until it joins the Kohumaru Block, from thence it follows the line in a northerly direction, until it joins the survey line of the Block given by certain Natives to the Half Caste Children of James Bergham from thence until it reaches the Ngaiwitaua Creek and thence to the Salt water of Whangaroa Harbour, from thence it follows the line of the piece sold by the Chief Ruinga in a southerly direction, thence along the line of the portion excluded from the purchase by the Natives along the Pupuke, and from thence along the Surveyor's line to Matawerohia where the boundary commenced: But the Plan of the Survey to this Deed annexed will more particularly point out the exact boundary lines of the Block herein sold and conveyed to the Queen's Government.

Received this eighth day of October in the Year of our Lord One thousand eight Receipt for £1,273. 16. 3. hundred and 64 (1864) the Sum of One thousand two hundred and seventy three 16/3d Pounds sterling (£1273 . 16 . 3) being the consideration money expressed in the above-written Deed to be paid by H. T. Kemp Dist. Commissioner on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen to us.
