the author: Major C. A. Borman, MBE, ED, m.i.d., was born at Rangiorain 1906 and educated at Timaru, and is now resident at Upper Hutt. He is a public servant in the employ of the New Zealand Post Office. He joined the New Zealand Territorial Force in 1921 at Timaru and has served continuously ever since. In January 1940 he left New Zealand as a subaltern with the First Echelon of the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force and served with Divisional Signals for over four years in the Middle East and Central Mediterranean theatres, returning to New Zealand early in 1944 to take up a General Staff Officer appointment at Army Headquarters until the end of the war. For his services to the post-war Territorial Force he was awarded the MBE in 1953.
