THE AUTHOR, J. B. McKinney, MA, m.i.d., was educated at Pukekohe Technical High School and Victoria University College. He served in the New Zealand Medical Corps in the Middle East and Italy from 1941 to 1945, most of the time on the staff of the Director of Medical Services, 2 NZEF. Since 1947 he has been on the staff of the Medical History Section, War History Branch, as assistant to the Medical Editor.
