Government House Ball

Government House Ball.

In the issue of the “Spectator,” of February 10th, 1849, is an account of the Lieutenant-Governor's first Ball, held in the new suite of rooms recently added to Government House. The venerable Te Puni, Thomson Te Rauparaha (Te Rauparaha's son), and Martin, from Otaki, were among the guests. There were upwards of 200 persons present, including a great number of settlers, the Officers of the Garrison, and the Officers of H.M.S. Steamer “Acheron.” The guests page 152 were received by the Lieutenant Governor and Mrs. McCleverty.
