John Cawte Beaglehole Letters

This large collection of handwritten letters, penned home by J.C. Beaglehole in the latter half of the 1920s, has been fully imaged and digitized. The collection provides a uniquely personal look at the early years of one of our most significant historians.

Written mainly while resident in London in pursuit of his PhD, the letters contain not only personal items, but are packed full of observations on contemporary events and people. Eloquent, witty and surprisingly acessible to the modern reader, these letters will fascinate both the general audience and scholars alike.
