Massacre Bay District

Massacre Bay District.

According to an agreement made with Meihana for relinquishing his claims and not receiving any share of the payment awarded by Mr. Commissioner Spain for the Motupipi, Aorere, and Takaka Districts, he was to have 50 acres of section No. 22, at Motupipi, which was to be marked out for him by the Government Surveyor and a Crown Grant issued to him for it.

  • For Rameka Te Paea, 20 acres.
  • For Paramene Nganarangi, 20 acres
  • For Henare Te Ranga, 20 acres.
  • For Pirimona Te Aupori, 20 acres.
  • For Hamiora Pito, 20 acres.

These out of the same section, No. 22. The above five Natives were also to have individual Crown Grants. Thomas Freeman, a well-disposed chief, should have his reserve extended so as to include the adjoining section inland of that which he at present occupies.

A section of the Ngatiawa residing in Massacre Bay, and who intended to leave for Taranaki if not provided with land, request a section in the Massacre Bay District, the position of which was pointed out to Mr. Brunner; and as it is essential that land should be provided for them, to prevent their return to Taranaki, Mr. Brunner should lay off the section they have applied for, as it is not selected by any European. The name of this chief is Rawiri. An old chief, Henare Te Keha of Taranaki, should also have sufficient land laid out for him, where he is residing, to prevent his return to Taranaki.
